BRADENTON, Fla. - NCF Women's Basketball went into both halftime and the third quarter tied Wednesday and even led by as many as nine in the third quarter, but was unable to close out its first conference win of the season as a fourth quarter surge from the Webber Warriors saw the Mighty Banyans come out on the short end, falling 69-53.
After going into halftime tied at 25, NCF used a 14-5 run to jump in front 39-30. Webber would respond, however, as the Warriors closed out the quarter on a 12-3 run to tie the game at 42 heading into the fourth.
The fourth quarter was dominated by the Warriors, who outscored the Mighty Banyans 27-11 to leave town with the victory.
NCF was led in scoring by
Halle Shelt, who scored 15 points as she nailed five three-pointers.
Shelt was joined in double figures by
Gwen Tsoukalas and
Tatiana Jackson, who each scored 11 points.
Jackson finished with a double-double as she pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds. She also led NCF with four assists.
Tsoukalas picked up a team-high three steals on the defensive end while Shelt picked up the Mighty Banyans lone block of the game.
With the loss, NCF is now 7-8 overall on the season and 0-6 in Sun Conference play. It will return to action Saturday in Lake Wales at Warner with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. EST.
