SARASOTA, Fla. - NCF Softball earned a sweep of Florida National Tuesday, winning Game 3-1 and Game 2 4-3 to improve to a school-record best 9-1 on the season.
Game 1
NCF fell behind 1-0 in Game 1 but in the bottom of the fifth put together a rally to take the lead.
Samantha Suarez lifted a game-tying sac-fly,
Rylie Harwood ripped a go-ahead RBI single and
Sydney Rich ripped an RBI single of her own to make it 3-1.
The two-run lead was more than enough for NCF freshman starter
Isabella Yazzetti who was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game in which she allowed just one run, struck out five and gave up only five hits. She is now 3-0 on the season.
Game 2
NCF once again fell behind in Game 2 as it trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth when catcher
Kira McDonough untied the game with one swing as she hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2.
FNU would pull ahead after a pair of NCF defensive lapses in the top of the seventh, but the Mighty Banyans quickly rallied back in the bottom half of the frame to walk off with the win.
Jamie Reinhardt ripped a lead-off single,
Kelsey Harper reached on an error and then stole second, setting up
Maya Moro, off the bench, who ripped a walk-off two-run single.
Up Next: NCF will return home Saturday to host John Melvin Christian College for a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
