SARASOTA, Fla. - NCF Softball improved to 6-0 on the season Monday by sweeping a doubleheader at home from Fort Lauderdale, winning Game 1 10-1 and Game 2 6-3.
Game 1
The Mighty Banyans came out swinging in the opener as Samatha Suarez hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to give NCF a quick 3-0 lead.
NCF then added five in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of
Mackenzie Mathers.
The Mighty Banyans added one in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the fourth, which was more than enough for starting pitcher
Dani Ebert, who threw a 5.0 inning no-hitter that saw her issue just one walk and strike out two Eagles.
Game 2
For the first time this season, NCF had to use a comeback to win Game 2.
After falling behind 3-0 after two and a half innings of play, NCF rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the third as
Madison Garcia launched a solo home run and
Sydney Rich hit a two-run single.
Rich, who also earned the win on the mound, tossing 4.0 innings of three-run ball, then helped herself out again, smacking a go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. Later in the inning,
Jill Halas lined a two-run double to give NCF two important insurance runs.
With a three-run lead in hand,
Kendall Rubel entered in relief and pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to record the save.
Up Next: NCF will be back in action Thursday when it visits Florida National for a non-conference doubleheader.
