Madeleine Chellas earned a pair of honors Monday, being named the Sun Conference Women's Tennis Champions of Character Award recipient for her work off the court while also earning second-team All-Sun Conference honors for her performance on the court.
The Sun Conference Champions of Character Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate the NAIA core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
A model student-athlete, Chellas has emerged as a leader on and off the court as the No. 1 player for NCF Women's Tennis and currently holds an ITA NAIA national ranking of No. 38.
Academically, Chellas has maintained All Strong SAT Designations, the equivalent of a 4.0 GPA, in college and distinguished herself as an exceptional scholar dating back to high school, where she completed 17 AP courses and earned top scores on all exams. She is actively involved in campus leadership and service through roles as an Orientation Leader, Admissions Representative, Socratic Experience participant, Knack Tutor and member of TP USA. She also represented New College at New College Day at the Capitol in Tallahassee.
Her athletic accomplishments include being a two-time Florida State Champion in Class 4A, captain of her high school team, recipient of the Carlos Armas Award for sportsmanship and dedication to hard work, and a USTA Sportsmanship Pin honoree. She has also been recognized publicly for her character through a feature in Positive Person of Pinecrest.
Known for her professionalism, preparation, humility and positive leadership, Chellas is described as the first to arrive each day, a vocal and supportive teammate, a leader by example and a servant leader who gives back through volunteerism and tutoring.
On the court, the Miami native has posted an 8-4 singles record, including a 5-3 mark at the No. 1 position and a 3-1 record at the No. 2 position to help earn second-team All-Sun Conference honors.
She also owns an 8-6 doubles record, going 2-2 at the No. 2 position and 6-4 at the No. 3 position alongside Camila Cardona-Carballosa.
Chellas and the Mighty Banyans are set to open Sun Conference Championship play Friday in Brunswick, Georgia.
