NCF Men's And Women's Tennis To Start Sun Conference Tournament Play Wednesday

NCF Men's and Women's Tennis will both play its first postseason matches in program history Wednesday when both teams open Sun Conference Tournament play at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex in Brunswick, Georgia.

The NCF Men will be the No. 3 seed and take on No. 6-seeded SCAD Savannah in a 2:30 p.m. EST Men's Quarterfinals match, while the women, seeded No. 5, will take on No. 4 seeded Coastal Georgia at 10:30 a.m. EST in the Women's Quarterfinals.

  • The NCF men earned the No. 3 seed by going 5-2 in Sun Conference play during regular season play, including a victory over its quarterfinals opponent, SCAD Savannah, which came at home on April 10 by a final score of 4-2.
  • Freshman Timothy Phung was named Second Team All-Sun Conference on Monday. Phung, a Bradenton native, has posted a 5-6 record in singles play while competing at the No. 1 position for the Mighty Banyans. He is 8-7 in doubles competition, including a 2-1 record at the No. 2 position and a 5-2 mark at the No. 3 position, playing alongside both Carlos Quinones and Konstantin Kukaras throughout the campaign.
  • The NCF Women went 2-5 in Sun Conference play to secure the No. 5 seed in the Sun Conference Tournament. It fell 4-1 to Coastal Georgia at home on April 11.
  • NCF freshman Madeleine Chellas earned a pair of honors Monday, being named the Sun Conference Women's Tennis Champions of Character Award recipient for her work off the court while also earning second-team All-Sun Conference honors for her performance on the court. The Sun Conference Champions of Character Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate the NAIA core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. On the court, the Miami native has posted an 8-4 singles record, including a 5-3 mark at the No. 1 position and a 3-1 record at the No. 2 position to help earn second-team All-Sun Conference honors. She also owns an 8-6 doubles record, going 2-2 at the No. 2 position and 6-4 at the No. 3 position alongside Camila Cardona-Carballosa.
