ARASOTA, Fla. - For a second straight week, a pair of New College Volleyball seniors were honored by the Sun Conference as weekly award winners after the Mighty Banyans went 3-1 in the Mighty Banyan VolleyPalooza to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Junior opposite hitter
Wiktoria Telecka was named the Sun Conference Attacker of the Week. She had 56 aces in the four-game Mighty Banyan, including a season-high 21 in the team's conference opener against Ave Maria, and 14 in a 3-0 win over Florida National in the weekend finale. In three of the four matches, she posted an attack percentage above .300, including a .394 average in the sweep of FNU and also had 10 service aces on the weekend.
Senior setter
Rafaela Domingos defended her crown as Sun Conference Setter of the Week, taking home the honor for a second straight week. Domingos had a stellar 184 assists in the VolleyPalooza, averaging 46 per match. She notched a season-high 52 assists in a 3-1 Friday win over Florida National, had 51 in the lone loss of the weekend to Ave Maria, had 38 in a 3-0 sweep of Florida College and 43 in Saturday's 3-0 sweep of Florida National in a rematch. She also added eight kills on the weekend and 41 digs.
The Mighty Banyans will host Southeastern at 7 p.m. Wednesday at SCF-Bradenton and then hit the road Saturday to take on Florida Memorial in a 2 p.m. match as conference play.
