OF NOTE
  • The Mighty Banyans picked up a pair of victories at the RussMatt Tournament in Davenport last weekend, defeating Cornerstone 13-5 and Waldorf 8-3. The pair of wins improves NCF to a program-best record of 13-5.
  • The win over Cornerstone saw the Mighty Banyans jump out to an 8-0 lead after just three and a half innings of play thanks to a monster start from first baseman Patrick Fink. Fink slugged a two-run home run in the top of the first, ripped an RBI single in the top of the third and hit another two-run homer in the top of the fourth to fuel NCF's hot start. Cornerstone would get three back in the bottom of the fourth, but with the score 9-4 entering the top of the ninth, the Mighty Banyans tacked on four insurance runs as Jesus Fortis plated a run with a ground ball, Domenic Fernandez scored on a wild pitch, Fernando Espinal worked a bases-loaded walk and Matthew Merk scored on a balk.
  • In its victory over Waldorf, with the score tied at 1-1, NCF pulled ahead in the bottom of the third as Rylan Jomisko lifted a sac-fly and Fink scored on a wild pitch. The Mighty Banyans added four insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth as Matthew Merk hit an RBI single, Espinal ripped a two-run double and Jomisko lined an RBI single, making it 7-1. After the Warriors got two runs back in the top of the sixth, the Banyans added one more in the bottom half of the frame thanks to another RBI single from Jomisko. Meanwhile, NCF's ace Ryan Swartz was stellar again as he moved to 4-0 on the season by tossing 6.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs, striking out six, allowing just three hits and one walk. In relief, Luke Kimball worked a perfect top of the seventh, striking out two to shut the door on the Warriors.
  • Entering the weekend series, New College ranks first in the Sun Conference with a team batting average of .322 and triples with 10 and ranks sixth in the NAIA with a team fielding percentage of .981.

UP NEXT: March 14 and 15th at Ave Maria - Ave Maria, Fla.
