NUNEZ PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE HEAD SOFTBALL COACH

SARASOTA, Fla. - New College of Florida Head Softball Coach Corbin Weeks has announced the promotion of Cheyenne Nunez to Associate Head Coach ahead of the 2027 season.

Nunez enters her fourth season with the Mighty Banyans after joining the program as an assistant coach ahead of its inaugural season in 2023. One of the longest-tenured members of the program, Nunez has played an instrumental role in the development and growth of NCF softball since its inception.

During her time with the Mighty Banyans, Nunez has served as the head coach of the varsity reserve program while also coaching first base for the varsity squad. She also stepped into an increased leadership role and helped lead the program as late head coach Aly Bermudez courageously battled ovarian cancer.

"I am incredibly grateful for the support that Cheyenne has shown me since I arrived at New College," Weeks said. "Cheyenne has an unwavering love for this program, and her loyalty runs deep for our institution. There's no one else that I would want to work alongside as we continue building this program."

A native of the Seminole Tribe of Florida's Brighton Indian Reservation, Nunez has extensive experience coaching the game at multiple levels. In addition to her collegiate coaching career, she has coached several travel ball teams and Native American youth softball tournaments.

Prior to joining New College, Nunez spent two seasons as an assistant coach at State College of Florida, where she previously enjoyed a standout playing career.

Nunez played two seasons for the Manatees, finishing her career with a .364 batting average. During the 2019 season, she led the team with 67 hits and set a program single-season record with 38 stolen bases. She finished her SCF career with 61 stolen bases, setting the program's all-time record.

Her standout 2019 campaign earned her First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State honors, while she was also named State College of Florida's Female Athlete of the Year for the 2018-19 academic year.

Following her time at SCF, Nunez continued her playing career for one season at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Nunez earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of South Florida in 2021.

Her promotion comes as the Mighty Banyans continue building on the program's early success. NCF set a program record with 32 victories during the 2026 season.
