OF NOTE
  • The Mighty Banynas will be making its second trip to the Space Coast Tournament. Last season, NCF played six games at the tournament, going 3-3 with wins over RV Shawnee State, Bethel and Siena Heights and losing to Trinity Christian, Cleary and No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan.
  • After a 16-1 start, the Mighty Banyans are coming off an adversity-filled week, dropping two games to Montreat at home last Wednesday and then being swept in a three-game series by No. 10 Southeastern last weekend.
  • The series finale Saturday saw NCF out-hit Southeastern 7-5. Southeastern struck first in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead, but New College quickly responded in the bottom half.  Lewis reached base and used her speed to create the tying run, stealing both second and third before scoring on an RBI single from Reinhardt to even the score at 1-1. Both teams traded scoreless frames through the fourth before Southeastern regained the lead in the fifth inning with a two-run home run that pushed the Fire ahead 3-1. New College continued to apply pressure offensively, finishing with seven hits in the game. Suarez led the Banyans with two hits, while Sydney Rich doubled Reinhardt and Kelsey Harper each had two singles and Lewis also singled. The Banyans had opportunities late but were unable to push across another run as Southeastern held on to complete the series sweep.
  • Despite the rough week, the Mighty Banyans still rank eighth in the country in stolen bases (75), tied for 19th in home runs (14) and 11th in ERA (2.03).
