MENS BASKETBALL VICTORIOUS IN FIRST GAME BACK FROM BREAK

Box Score LAUDERHILL, Fla. - The New College of Florida men's basketball team claimed their first victory of 2024 over The University of Fort Lauderdale thanks to an impressive offensive display. 

The Mighty Banyans (3-11) looked inspired when arriving at Fort Lauderdale for the opening game of the new year. Looking to bounce back after a difficult opening semester, the Mighty Banyan's opened the game with intensity. 

Schuyler Pimentel scored the first two buckets of the New Year for NCF, scoring a layup in the half court, then throwing down a big dunk in transition. Both teams clicked in the first ten minutes of play. Fort Lauderdale responded to quick scoring from New College, showcasing an impressive ability to move the ball. A jumper at the 9:52 mark improved the Eagles lead to 8. 

Jackson Dawson and Alex Excellent scored on back to back possessions off the bench, sparking the Mighty Banyan offense. Schuyler Pimentel and Jordan Clark continued the push, getting to the lane and knocking down shots from three, eliminating the Eagles lead and tying the ball game at 31. 

Jackson Dawson stepped to the line with zeros on the clock, knocking down two free throws to give New College a 38-37 lead heading into the break. 

The Offense for NCF took off in the second half. Following a free-throw by Jordan Clark to give the Banyan's a 60-59 lead, New College would go on a 13 point run before allowing a bucket on the other end. The New College offense continued to execute, extending their lead to a game high 20 points. 

The Mighty Banyans defense held on to their double digit lead to the buzzer, ultimately claiming a 90-78 victory in their first game of the new year. 

Their were many impressive performances for the Mighty Banyans in the win. Jordan Clark led the way with 21 points on an efficient 7-8 from the field. Schuyer Pimentel and Alex Excellent both scored in double figures, with 17 and 15 points respectively. 

Eleven of the twelve NCF players who saw action scored, with New College shooting a season high 71.4% from the field and 62.5% from the three point line. 

New College will look to extend their current win streak to three games next Tues. Dec 17, when they host Florida National at State College of Florida.
