BANYANS SHOW GREAT SIGNS IN DOUBLE HEADER AT AVE MARIA

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AVE MARIA, Fla. – Mighty Banyans Baseball unable to get back to winning ways in double header vs Ave Maria.

The New College of Florida Mighty Banyans played well, but were unable to claim victory in a double-header against a talented Ave Maria squad.

The Banyans got off to a great start to open game one. The Banyans opened the scoring in the first inning. John McIntosh delivered an RBI on a ground out to the Gyrenes shortstop, scoring third basemen Brennan Peterson.
Ave Maria tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a home run to deep center field, but the Banyans responded.

New College added on 3 more runs in the third inning. Brennan Peterson got the inning started with a walk, setting up the heart of the New College line-up. John McIntosh reached base safely on a hit-by-pitch, putting two runners on for Matthew Merk and Gabriel Rangel. Merk proceeded to walk, loading the bases for Rangel who delivered, scorching a double to left center field and clearing the base-paths.

The Banyans continued to hold their lead into the top of the fifth inning. John McIntosh homered in the top of the inning, extending the Banyan lead to 4 before entering the bottom of the frame.

The Gyrenes responded. The Ave Maria offense roared in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 4 runs to knot the game at 5 heading into the final two innings of action. Ave continued to flourish, scoring another 5 runs in the sixth to take a big 10-5 lead. This lead was too much for NCF, with Ave Maria pulling away to a 10-5 win in game one of the day.

John McIntosh had an excellent game one, going 1 for 3 from the plate with a home run and 2 RBI.

The Banyans gave themselves another chance to win in game two. Brennan Peterson got the scoring started in the third inning. Trailing 1-0, Peterson scored Chris Bradburn on an unassisted groundout to first, tying the game at 1.

The Banyans offense continued to score. Rylan Jomisko helped NCF take the lead with a run on a Gyrene error. Gabriel Rangel added on to the lead with a powerful double to left field, scoring two runs to give the Banyans a 4-1 lead.

Ave Maria fought back, scoring three runs in the fifth before ultimately clinching the game with a run in the bottom of the eight inning.

Gabriel Rangel led the Banyan offense, going 1 for 4 from the plate with 2 RBI.

Rylan Jomisko and John McIntosh both scored big runs for the Banyans.

NCF Baseball is back in action on Tues. April 16 at No. 1 Southeastern.
